44th Vicenza Course: Explore the Evolving Role of Blood Purification

Author:Admin Date:2026-06-20

The 44th Vicenza Course took place in Vicenza, Italy, from June 16 to 18, 2026. Hosted by the International Renal Research Institute of Vicenza (IRRIV) since 1982, this annual event is one of the most respected and well-known congresses in the global nephrology and critical care fields.

The conference serves as a key platform for presenting the latest clinical research and practical applications in Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), and Extracorporeal Organ Support (ECOS), offering valuable, practical guidance for clinicians and researchers worldwide.

We were delighted to see that Jafron's hemoadsorption technology has attracted many practitioners and scholars, many inspiring ideas and insights were shared by and discussed among the participants.

During the symposium "Hemoadsorption in Critical Care", Dr. Tiago Duarte shared clinical insights on the value of hemoadsorption as an adjunctive intervention beyond standard therapy in patients with septic shock. Prof. Nattachai Srisawat further discussed the timing of hemoperfusion initiation in sepsis, emphasizing the importance of clinical phenotypes, vasopressor requirements, IL-6 levels, and endotoxin/cytokine burden.

In the symposium "The Role of Hemoadsorption in Liver Support", Prof. Faouzi Saliba shared real-world clinical experience and successful cases of Jafron DPMAS artificial liver support technology in the treatment of acute liver failure (ALF) and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), followed by an engaging discussion among the expert panel.

Additionally, the latest progress as well as upcoming plans of S.A.I.L.l.N.G. - a blood purification research support program funded by Jafron Biomedical and jointly endorsed by the IRRIV Foundation and Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Hospital — was announced during the event by Prof. Ronco and Prof. Ostermann.

The S.A.I.L.I.N.G. Extramural Grant Program is designed to stimulate scientific advancement and new studies in the area of adsorption and related extracorporeal blood purification therapies. Grants can be awarded competitively to investigators who propose translational research on the topic of adsorption applied to hemodialysis, blood purification therapies for intoxication and poisoning, blood purification in sepsis and other critical illness, extracorporeal organ support techniques.

This project aims to increase awareness of the potential of hemoadsorption as a method of blood purification and to improve the quantity and quality of scientific evidence supporting the use of sorbents in different pathological conditions. As a dedicated medical corporation, Jafron is committed to turning pioneering ideas into clinical realities, fostering a spirit of continuous innovation that empowers healthcare professionals and inspires hope for patients worldwide.
